The Speaker of Mandarin (1992)

The 17th mystery in the Wexford series, which started the 1992 run on TV. Reg Wexford is delighted when his police nephew sends him on a official visit to China. Yet while out there he becomes plagued by nightmares and visions of the murder of a woman. Then he encounters a group of English tourists and befriends them, but he is astonished when he recognises one of them as the woman in his visions. And when he eventually returns home, just days later he hears of reports of a murder nearby, and is shocked to discover that his vision has come true... Starring George Baker, Christopher Ravenscroft, Louie Ramsey, Diane Keen, Annette Crosbie, Maggie Stead, Frances Cuka, Norman Rodway, Denyse Alexander, Michael Carter, Marjorie Yates, Michael Marsh, Dominic Jephcott, Fiona Walker, Olivia Williams, Virginia McKenna, Helena Michell, John Burgess and Ken Kitson to name but many. This is the 17th Wexford mystery (sadly I do not have Achilles Heel, which preceeds this), and the video itself was originally uploaded by Youtube member Paul Goddard before his Wexford mysteries disappeared. As with all of the uploads, whether mine or Goddards, they are from old video tapes, so there may be some glitches contained. Apologies in advance. As for the mystery itself, it is the 3rd one where Wexford has visions which are not entirely explained here. Despite a slow start to this mystery, once it gets going it proves an intriguing watch, as it asks whether people really can have premonitions...
