Starring Jeremy Rampling, Shaughan Seymour, Isabelle Amyes, Sarah Jane McKechnie, Simon Fenton, Renee Asherson and Tessa Burbridge. This is a series I remember from my childhood, and was originally broadcast on January 4th 1989 - following on from the Christmas broadcast of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe just weeks before. Adapted from the 1958 novel by Philippa Pearce, this was the 3rd TV adaptation, with the previous two being in 1968 and 1974, but this is arguably the most well known of the trio. This has always had a place in my affections and is a lovely adaptation with a surprising and moving conclusion. I hope you enjoy it.
