Part 2 of 3 of the Bognor mystery. Simon is recovering after his meal was spiked during the dinner do at La Boule De Niege restaurant. Unnervingly two of the guests were on Parkinson's file as KGB spies, but was Scoff's work as an agent for the Allies a reason for his death, or is it a red herring to throw Simon off the scent? Meanwhile Colonel Blight-Purley seems remarkably eager to assist in Bognor's investigations - but why? Parkinson is not happy about his involvement and warns Simon about revealing anything to him, but Lingard later uncovers a list of hotels in Parkinson's drawer with the name E.S. Smith next to them. When Simon hears of the death of another restauranteur at one of the hotels on Parkinson's list, he decides to go along to the wine tasting event at Petheron Abbey nearby where the other guests at that dinner do are at to investigate, only for there to be another murder...
Starring David Horovitch, Joanna McCallum, Ewen Roberts, John Le Mesurier, Giselle Wolf, Lynda LaPlante, Andrew Burt, Boris Isarov, Jerry Harte, Tim Merats, Ursula Mohan, Edward De Souza, Garry Cooper, Anthony Powell and Andree Evans, who some viewers may remember from P.D. James' Shroud for a Nightingale. As with most Bognor mysteries, this involves Simon getting inebriated and also being seduced. What did he have that was so alluring, I wonder? At least he hasn't been hit this time - unless you count the last episode, where part of his ear was shot off, that is. However, he gets roped into a game of cricket, where one of the batsmen is very antagonistic against him when he refuses to drop his investigations. Oh dear...
