Part 3 of 6 of the Bognor mystery. Simon wakes up in Coriander's bed and wonders how he got there. He knows he was attacked when attempting to dig up the Duchess of Dorset's dead dog, but finds people lying to him and not knowing why. One person who is prepared to talk to him is Ailsa Potts' kennel maid Rose Jenkins, who suspects that Cecil Handyside, who runs a company called Animal Transport, poisoned their dog. He also learns that a judge at the dog shows, Percy Pocklington, awarded victory at two controversial dog shows and when he goes to question him at Windsor dog show he finds similar controversy there among the contestants, as well as a few new faces that he has no idea whether he can trust or not. But the investigation takes a serious turn when this time a human is murdered...
