One of the most memorable serials from The Two Ronnies, written between Ronnie Barker and Spike Milligan. The story involves Victorian London being terrorized by a mysterious cloaked figure, who attacks the aristocracy by blowing a barrage of rude raspberries at them. Given the task of apprehending the fiend are Inspector Corner (Ronnie Corbett) and Sgt Balls (Barker), but they have little time on their hand as the madman is a master of disguise and threatens to target The Queen herself! Can they find out who the culprit is and stop him in time?
This is from an old recording of mine, which was originally broadcast in 8 parts, but has been pieced together here as a whole drama. Familiar faces among the madness are Joan Sims, Barbara New, Carol Hawkins and Vicki Michelle (some years from Allo Allo). I remember seeing this as a kid when it was repeated in 1986 and it scared me then, and it certainly has an atmospheric feel to it - just check out the showdown at the cemetary (complete with that music) and you'll know what I mean. When this is usually shown on TV nowadays it is in it's edited format, but here it is in it's complete, uncensored and original version. If that may put some viewers seeing this on edge, I'd advise them to check out Spike Milligan's series Q (aka There's a Lot of It About) from 1969 to 1982, where they'll really see something strange and non-PC!
