S1, Ep 4: Norman, Alan's transsexual accountant, tells him that the depot in Hull where he illegally stored nuclear waste is scheduled for demolition. Needing somewhere to move the waste, Alan learns of a disused coal mine owned by Roland (Alan's father-in-law) - only problem is, it's under a council estate primary school!
Starring Rik Mayall, Marsha Fitzalan, Rowena Cooper, Charles Grey, Michael Troughton, Peter Sallis and Peter Martin. Another outrageous episode and one which would have today's wokes in fits for some of the things that goes on in this. One particular line is when Norman points out to Alan that a mine that he wants to dump nuclear waste in is under a primary school. "What's the problem? It's only a local comprehensive," he replies. I'm not sure today's audiences would get the subtle meaning behind this sitcom's particular humour, for which unscrupulous politicians are the target. Charles Grey is great fun as Alan's contemptuous father in law, putting Alan down a peg or two (which is always needed), while Peter Sallis makes a welcome appearance again as the gleefully sinister pub landlord Sidney Bliss, which is a LONG way off from his role as Norman Clegg in Last of the Summer Wine!
