In this film Peter Weiss focuses on the youth. The Sveriges Socialdemokratiska Ungdomsförbund (Socialdemocratic Youth Association of Sweden?!!?) commissioned the film to address the problem of drug and alcohol abuse. Mixing fragments of documentary footage and staged scenes, Weiss follows a number of girls and boys of different class on their saturday evening. He refrains from examining causes and reasons of their general feelings of emptiness, boredom and disillusionment. Weiss' social critique is not yet as political as his later documentary dramas so unyieldingly bring forth. With these films, he more likely intended to make visible what was shut off from so-called normality in the 1950s.
