Richard Sharpe finds himself demoted back to Lieutenant when his Captain is killed during a battle to take a fortress. However, his love Teresa breaks the news that Sharpe is now a father to a baby girl, now living with her family, before leaving on a spying mission. Captain Windham now takes over the 95th South Essex Company and brings in new troops for their next mission, but Sharpe recognises one of the troops as an old foe called Obadiah Hakeswill, now a sergeant. And Obadiah proves to be a real threat to Sharpe, who learns that the mission is to breach the Badajoz garrison occupied by the French - a place which turns out to be where Sharpe's wife and child happens to be...

This is from one of my video tapes, so apologies in advance for any glitches there may be. This kickstarted the 2nd series of Sharpe on May 25th 1994 and saw a change of face with Hugh Fraser (fresh from Poirot) taking over from David Troughton as Wellington. It also saw the debut of Pete Postlethwaite, who would become a notable presence in the series as Obadiah Hakeswill. Please note that this contains some swearing and violence.
