Terrors of the Sea explores terrifying ghostly tales of the sea and monstrous horrors from the deep.
Again narrated by George Popov – with some other speakers along the way – the film does just what you would expect, focusing this time on phenomena associated specifically with the sea: ghost ships, sea creatures, ghostly sailors and that peculiar subset of sea lore, mermaids/mermen. It is a fantastic journey into a topic that already strikes fear into so many of us; what lies beneath!
The documentary film once again come with a variety of beautifully-shot images of the sea and coast, some still images full of eerie music and illustrations that set the tone for each ghastly tale. There are only a few stories here but the stories told are treated in a detailed manner.
Nice to see references to Lovecraft in here too, and they also provide real-world examples of people who have allegedly witnessed many of these things first-hand.
