Here are some amazing statistics regarding the attitude of parents towards special needs children.
In Russia, according to RBC (Ros Business Consulting, March 2021), 36 percent of parents who have "ordinary" schoolchildren are against their children studying together with children who have special developmental needs. At first glance, this seems to be a rather large percentage, but let's examine how this figure came about.
Fifteen percent of those responding that way explained their answer by asserting that they had never before encountered inclusive education.
The remaining 21 percent believe that the quality of education will suffer because of having to integrate those children with special needs.
That is, the reasons for the negative responses provided are not based on principles, but rather the fear of the unknown and a lack of adequate information. The integration of special needs children into "regular" schools has a positive impact for all, as evidenced by the opinion of parents from the "friendly," more receptive sector: 18 percent assess a collaborative learning experience in a positive way. And, in general, the remaining 46 percent do not mind at all, but do worry about the appropriate organization and implementation of the learning process.
What do you think about this? Are you for or against inclusive education, and why?
