Shocked holidaymakers have described the heart-stopping moment a giant sinkhole the size of a football field swallowed vehicles at a popular camping ground near Queensland's Rainbow Beach.
The sinkhole, estimated to be about 100 metres by 100 metres and around three metres deep, opened up slowly at Inskip Point from about 11pm on Saturday, police say.
The rapidly expanding hole at the tourist attraction was so monstrous that it took just minutes to swallow a car, a caravan and a camping trailer as travellers were forced to evacuate.
