S2, Ep 5-6: Memories Are Forever. While working on a routine surveillance case for a suspicious wife, Magnum believes he has captured Michelle, the woman he married while he was serving in the Vietnam War and who he thought had been killed in a bombing raid in one of the photographs. T.C. and Rick are suspicious of the sighting but Magnum begins a thorough search of the area to find her. However, as he becomes more and more desperate to find the woman, he is suddenly and suspiciously recalled for active Navy duty and ordered to testify in Washington. Just what is going on?
Starring Tom Selleck, John Hillerman, Roger E Mosley, Larry Manetti, Marta Du Bois, Soon-Tek Oh, Jeff MacKay, Lance LeGault, Clyde Kutsatsu, Paul Burke, Brian Fong, Soo Yong, Wesley Ogata, Yankee Chang and Charles Faust among the cast. It's ironic that in the 1st series DVD the 2 part story came in two parts, but Series 2 DVD has the two parts joined together for reasons known only to themselves. It proves to be a pivotal couple of episodes in the future of Magnum P.I. as we get to find out a bit more of Thomas Magnum's past and of a wife believed killed in the Vietnam War. But is she really dead - and if not, why was Magnum lied to? The only way to find out is to watch this video, but be warned: it gets very tense towards the end. A sad footnote in that Marta Du Bois, who plays the woman Magnum believes to be his dead wife, later died of a brian aneurysm in 2018 at only 66 years old.
