For three months, the Dardenne brothers conducted a survey of independent radio stations in Belgium, France, Italy, and Switzerland. The result is an exciting picture of the arrival of independent radio stations in Europe as subversive alternatives to official media (public broadcasters and commercial mass media). To do this, the filmmakers interviewed pioneers. They also examined installations, such as hidden transmitters. One of these is a radio station that broadcasts in the Alsatian dialect in an effort to protect a minority language. "R… ne répond plus" is an extremely virtuoso film in which the Dardennes experiment with sound, which makes sense since it's about radios. The film ends in an almost deafening cacophony of voices, crackles, and other noises that fill the airwaves.
