Part 1 of 6 of the P.D. James mystery from 1991. Adam Dalgliesh travels down to Norfolk to deal with his aunt's effects after her death. But he arrives at a time when the district is being terrorized by a serial killer known as The Whistler. He has recently killed a teenage girl coming back from a disco, and finds the locals somewhat jittery, amid the backdrop of a Nuclear Power Station. He meets some of the staff that work there, but little do they realize that one of their number is soon to be the next victim of The Whistler... Starring Roy Marsden, James Faulkner, Susannah York, Gemma Jones, Tom Chadbon, Tony Haygarth, Tom Georgeson, Suzan Crowley, Lisa Ellis (listed here as Lisa Taylor), Helena Michell, Harry Burton, Nicola Cowper, Robert Hines, Jamie Newall, Mitzi Rogers, Paul Hargreaves, Ingrid Statman, Robert Cotton, Cherith Mellor, Simon Cook, Sophie Ashton, Aimee Delamain and Margery Withers. This was the last of the P.D. James adaptations to stretch to 6 episodes and was originally broadcast on January 4th 1991. This is from my own collection of P.D. James mysteries, and I have to say it is an unusual one to say the least. The most effective scenes are at the beginning, so get yourself a cushion and don't answer the door to anybody whistling!
