Part 2 of 6 of the Francis Durbridge mystery from 1980. Det Insp Sam Harvey is trying to solve the mystery of the inexplicable murder of his parents in strange circumstances, and finds that one thing after another set to bamboozle him. Having had a visit from the ex husband of Margaret Randall, his parent's neighbour, warning him not to trust anything she says, Mrs Randall now turns up on his doorstep with a bag marked "Marius of Rye" that she says was placed in his parents' empty house by occupants of a car - possibly driven by the air hostess Jill Foster. Things get even stranger when a stranger turns up with a film of his parents getting into a car driven by Foster, but when Harvey attempts to question her, there is an attempt on her life...
Starring Martin Jarvis, Glyn Houston, John Lee, Angela Browne, Derek Farr, Hilary Ryan, Paul Shelley, Simon Oates, Norman Hartley, Paul Fisk and Derek Benfield, who viewers may remember as the husband of Hetty Wainthrop Investigates in the 1990's. It's another complex episode that gets more mysterious and convulted, and in true Francis Durbridge style you never know just who you can trust, as almost everyone seems to be lying to poor Harvey. An interesting sidenote: this features both Angela Browne and Paul Shelley, who are the wife and brother of Francis Matthews, who played Francis Durbridge's creation Paul Temple on TV in the 1960's (as well as being the voice of Captain Scarlett, no less!).
