This is the parade in Moscow's Red Square, devoted to the 61st anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution, 7 November, 1978. On this beautiful sunny fall day in Moscow, the Soviet Union celebrates its birthday. At the time this event took place, many would consider this the time when the Soviet Union reached the peak of its political power, prestige and influence on the world stage (before beginning to decline with the start of the Afghan War at the end of the following year). At the beginning of the broadcast, the newly updated Soviet anthem is played. Presiding over the military parade is Minister of Defense of the USSR, Marshal of the Soviet Union; Dmitriy Ustinov. Commanding the parade is commander of the Moscow Military District, General of the Army; Vladimir Govorov. Music performed by the Moscow Military District Orchestra, directed by Colonel Nikolai Mikhailov. Worth mentioning is this is the only parade of the entire 1970s decade where it was a sunny day.
