WrestleMania I WWE ushered in a new era when WrestleMania took over Madison Square Garden in New York. The star-studded affair — headlined by a tag team match in which Hulk Hogan teamed with TV sensation Mr. T to battle “Rowdy” Roddy Piper & Paul Orndorff — involved the likes of Cyndi Lauper, Muhammad Ali and Liberace. Other fan-favorite memories included Andre the Giant decimating Bobby Heenan’s charge, Big John Studd, in a $15,000 Body Slam Challenge. Andre celebrated the win by sharing his duffel bag of cash with the capacity crowd in attendance.
