Shababnikim (2017) AKA: The New Black - season 1
Languages: Hebrew
Storyline:
Shababnikim is an Israeli comedy series about the lives of four ultra-Orthodox Jewish men in a yeshiva, who are fun-loving mischief-makers in snazzy suits, and the show is just as much about flirting and money and privilege as it is about religious belief and the limits of Haredi society. In Hebrew, a "shababnik" is a term for a young ultra-Orthodox person who leaves his or her faith in some regards but not in others. Shababnikim don't leave the religious community, but bend the boundaries of what is acceptable behavior in Jewish law.
