Second eyewitness (after highway patrol) to train derailment about one mile into Wind River canyon heading south from Thermopolis. The two engineers seemed ok, albeit cold, wet, and shook up. Update : Freight Train Derails For 2nd Time In Wyoming POSTED: May 18, 2010 CHEYENNE, Wyo. -- A freight train that wrecked last week in the Wind River Canyon derailed for a second time in Cheyenne during its trip from Montana to Denver. Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Corp. Spokesman Gus Melonas said five freight cars derailed Monday afternoon as the train was switching tracks from the Cheyenne yard to the main line. Melonas said the cars didn't spill any freight and there were no injuries. The line reopened Tuesday morning. The same train derailed last Wednesday about five miles south of Thermopolis in central Wyoming, resulting in the spillage of diesel fuel, bentonite clay and barley. BNSF removed the wrecked locomotives and cars, repaired the damaged track and reopened the line near Thermopolis on Saturday.
