Taraneh is the rock-centered multi-genre project of Iranian New York-based singer/songwriter, instrumentalist, and producer Taraneh Azar. Taraneh, meaning “melody” or “song” in Farsi, weaves hard-hitting grunge riffs with hypnotic industrial textures and vulnerable dream-pop elements to forge a gritty vision of true rock in the modern age. She is joined by a band of three: Ben Arauz (guitar), Adam Sosnicki (bass) and Jack Carillo (drums). Taraneh's latest record, ‘Unobsession’ (2025), is a hard-rock confessional, synthesizing grunge, sludge, prog, and doom elements to pioneer a sound uniquely her own. Taraneh’s Audiotree Live performance delivers the rarity of real rock. It echoes the seductive side of Blondie and the brashness of Babes in Toyland, but it's always very much Azar’s own at heart.
