The Almohad monarchs had a magnificent fortress built in Seville. At later dates this
construction underwent notable modifications by the Christian kings. Pedro I ordered to
erect a palace in Mudejar style in the XIV century, the construction emulates the palace of
the lions of the Alhambra in Granada. In it is the Hall of Ambassadors, the most luxurious and
decorated room in the palatial enclosure. The dome that the image offers us corresponds to
that of the Ambassadors' Hall, it is one of the top works of Mudéjar Art that denotes a
marked Islamic influence. This wonderful dome is made of wood and is supported by
pendentives with golden muqarnas, these consist of juxtaposed and hanging prisms that reminds us of stalactites.
The dome is dated 1427 and was made by the carpenter Diego Ruiz. This dome did that in the past

Tapestries Hall
The Tapestries Hall was completely destroyed after the earthquake of Lisbon in 1755 and
was remodeled by Sebastian Van Der Borcht. The tapestries that decorate the room are
an exact replica of the original "The conquest of Tunisia" commissioned by Carlos V after
his victory in 1535. The originals were woven in the workshop of Wilhelm Pannemaker.
between 1548 and 1554. The tapestries erposed today were commissioned by Philip V
during the eighteenth century to the Royal Tapestry Factory of Santa Barbara.

The Garden ofthe Galley is named by the galleys that there were cut out of the myrtle
hedges, as an imitation of naval engagements, bombarding each other with water
cannons. Today nothing of these galleys remains. The garden includes four beds planted
with a rich variety of flowers and Mediterranean shrubs. It is connected to the King Peter
I Palace by a pergola supported on pillars with Renaissance reliefdecoration. In its centre
rises a marble column erected in homage of the king Al-Mutamid, governor and poet of
Seville. It is inscribed on one side with one of his poems in which the King exrpresses his
longing to return to the gardens of his "blessed palace": "God grant that I may die in
Seville and that our graves be opened there at the resurrection".
