Gene Deitch: The Picture Book Animated (1977)

A must-see documentary from 1977 in which Gene Deitch describes his process of adapting illustrated children's books into animated shorts. Deitch devised customized creative solutions for each film because as he once explained in an interview, "No two films are the same, and all the elements of the films' construction, the animation, music, sounds, and voice, have to grow out of the stories to be told, and of course out of the style of the illustrations."
