CHEYENNE, Wyo. Three major vehicle pileups closed Interstate 80 between Cheyenne and Laramie in Wyoming on Thursday.
The incident began about
11:22 a.m. Between 40 and 50 commercial vehicles and 20 passenger vehicles were involved, the Wyoming Highway Patrol reported. Blizzard conditions were underway at the time.
Both directions of the freeway were closed, and police were directing all traffic off the roadway. There was no estimated time for reopening.
No fatalities were initially reported, but at least 19 people were thought to be hurt. Witnesses told local media that at least one crashed commercial vehicle displayed a hazardous materials placard.
