"Battleship Potemkin is a groundbreaking and highly influential silent film directed by Sergei Eisenstein in 1925. Based on a true event that occurred in 1905, the film tells the story of a rebellion on a Russian warship and its impact on the population of the city of Odessa, Eisenstein used innovative editing and editing techniques to create an exciting and political narrative, making the film a leading example of propaganda cinema and cinematic art.
The original score for the film was composed by Edmund Meisel, and is considered one of the best soundtracks in film history. Meisel used percussion and string instruments to create an atmosphere of tension and drama that perfectly complements the images on the screen. It combines various mixtures between the melodic themes of the leitmotivs of the film with various revolutionary marches, among others the Marseillaise or the International, with especially moving moments. On the other hand, its synchronicities between music and scenes are spectacular for the time and, among other innovations, it has one of the longest and most tense musical crescendos in the history of cinema.
