Hurt by the refusals of the publishers, as well as by the mockery of his colleagues, Bourdin spitefully encourages real gangsters to carry out the plan described in his novel, in order to ensure its literary success, and to seduce Angélique, the ticket collector on the platform opposite. In the café opposite the Santé prison, called À la bonne Santé, he tries to approach a gangster just out of prison by slipping the action plan into his jacket pocket. But his choice quickly falls on a famous gangster, Filippi, a true "aristocrat of crime". He approaches him in the same way in a bowling alley; the latter is very interested in the scenario and wants to follow it to the letter. But he forces Bourdin to become his accomplice, in order to allow its realization and to scrupulously respect the plan described in the novel. Bourdin steals the key opening the gates of the metro stations from his station manager. By signaling to the driver of the train and being recognized, he allows the stop of the money train and the opening of its doors at the previous station, Arsenal, a closed metro station that the gangsters invest beforehand. The gangsters lock the RATP agents in the trunks of cars displayed on the platforms for advertising purposes, and flee with the money train. Arriving at the Austerlitz viaduct, they carry out the plan described as planned: the bags of coins and notes are thrown into the Seine, with floats so as not to sink. But the first crook that Bourdin had approached knows the plan: he recovers one of the five bags under the viaduct with a boat and flees with it. The other four bags are recovered further on by Bourdin and the gangsters, before being arrested by the police, warned by Angélique, who had noticed the abnormal presence of Bourdin on board the money train. Filippi exonerates Bourdin who quickly gets out of prison: the robbery made the headlines and his novel finally became a great literary success.
