Writer/director Christopher Nolan explores the nature of memory with the twisting and turning timeline of this complex neo-noir thriller. The protagonist of the film is Leonard, a man with anterograde amnesia, which means that he can't form new memories and therefore must keep track of his life through a series of notes, pictures and tattoos of important clues and events. Leonard's amnesia was caused by a head injury sustained when his wife was attacked and murdered in their home. One of the attackers is dead, but the other remains at large. Seeking revenge, Leonard uses his tattoo system to hunt him down.
