The title refers to the protagonist's (Tara Fitzgerald) inability to make her own decisions in life. The movie opens with two key events: One involving her thoroughly detestable lover Edmund (Owen Teale), the other involving her father (Daniel Massey).
These two events will lead to a complete upheaval in Poppy's life. Something that will hopefully lead to her being able to take her life in the direction she chooses. But not before experiencing some chaotic adventures along the way.
Adapted for television from the 1986 novel of the same name by Mary Wesley, this is an unpretentious, mostly light-hearted romantic comedy drama. Except for a couple of odd breaks in tone there aren't many surprises, but it's good entertainment, and the featured actors are charming and attractive.
Mary Wesley was an English writer, who during the course of her career became one of Britain's most successful novelists, selling three million copies of her books, including 10 best-sellers in the last 20 years of her life. Her most famous novel was 1984s The Camomile Lawn.
