🔴⚪🔵 Tang (SS-306) More than a score of flyers are rescued by a daring submarine patrol operating under heavy enemy gunfire. As U.S. planes hit the island of Truk, submarines are ordered close to the objective to save as many men as possible. USS Tang did its job and set a pattern to be followed by other submarines for the remainder of the war.
Documentary dramatic anthology about the U.S. Navy's submarine fleet. All stories were based on fact and the realism was heightened by actual use of combat footage from the files of the Navy. The stories were varied between the South Pacific during World War II and the Korean War. The series was the brainchild of Rear Admiral Thomas M. Dykers, who retired from the Navy in 1949 after 22 years service. The Navy loaned him the U.S.S. Sawfish for the filming of several episodes. Many of the actual people who served on the submarines are interviewed at the end of each episode by Rear Admiral Thomas M. Dykers. You may recognize a number of actors from the time that portray these men in the re-enactments of each engagement. There seems to be a lot of stock footage, which just adds some more realism, and the entire cast is composed of very capable performers.
