In Volgograd, near the panorama museum "Battle of Stalingrad", monuments to Stalin, as well as marshals Zhukov and Vasilevsky, were opened, the online edition V1 reports. Bronze busts on granite pedestals were created by sculptor Sergei Shcherbakov.
“The idea to install busts of prominent political and military figures who played a key role in the victorious end of the Battle of Stalingrad belonged to the regional council of veterans,” the Volgograd Regional Duma said.
As noted by V1, this is not the only monument to Stalin in the city. In 2019, his bust was installed in front of the entrance to the regional committee of the Communist Party.
Earlier, Peskov reported that on February 2, on the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad, Putin would visit Volgograd, where he would take part in memorial events, and also talk with local residents and officials.
