"Ave Maria", written in the sixties by a Soviet musician, performer on the lute and guitar by Vladimir Vavilov in the style of medieval music.
Yuryiev-Polsky was founded by Yuri Dolgoruky in 1152. By his order, an almost circular fortress was built , which was surrounded by earth walls up to 7 m high, with wooden walls preserved to this day. In the centre of the fortress, in 1234 the St. George Cathedral was built.
In 1238 , 1382 and 1408 the city was ruined by the Mongol-Tatar invasion . In 1340 the town became a member of the Grand Duchy of Moscow . During the troubles of the early 17th century, Yuriev-Polsky was burnt by the Poles....
The town is part of the Golden Ring of Russia.
The town is located in the upper reaches of the River Koloksha, 42 miles, 68km from Vladimir.
