Part 2 of the psychological mystery by Ruth Rendell (here under the pen name Barbara Vine), broadcast on January 3nd 1994. The mystery concludes as Faith Severn looks back to the time as a child when she was sent to live with her aunts Vera and Eden Hillyard in the country, and how the strange family circumstances eventually led to the horrific murder of one of them...
Starring Helena Bonham Carter, Celia Imrie, Sophie Ward, Honeysuckle Weeks, Robin Ellis, Bernice Stegers, William Gaminara, Pip Torrens, Rachel Bell, Stephen Mackintosh, Ciaran Hinds and Polly Adams. This was the 3rd of a trio of Barbara Vine adaptations, and the one that stuck most in my mind as a kid. The strength of this absorbing mystery is some good performances by the main cast, in particular Celia Imrie in what is initially an unsympathetic character, but you somehow end up feeling great sympathy for by the end of it. Please note, although the 1st episode of this is 15 mins shorter than this episode, both episodes are complete and it is how they were originally broadcast. Also note this contains some swearing, violence, a sex scene and nudity.
