Russia: President Putin shown latest AK-12 rifle
Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Kalashnikov Concern, the country's largest manufacturer of sniper, automatic, hunting and sport rifles in Izhevsk, Udmurt, on Wednesday. The evolution of Kalashnikov Concern's weaponry was presented to the President. This included more traditional, well-known arms to newer, state of the art weaponry and armour.
A new project has been initiated at the Concern, aiming at developing a brand-new line of fire-arms that will improve upon their predecessors in precision, speed, and ergonomics. The details of the project are being kept in secret but the first product, the AK-12 rifle, was shown to President Putin today.
Kalashnikov Concern was previously known as Izhevsk Machinebuilding Plant or IZHMASH before it was renamed in 2013. The goal of Kalashnikov Concern is to become the number one fire-arms manufacturer in the world.
