Thrice are a genre-defying rock band from Irvine, California, whose career has been defined by creative conviction and constant evolution. Formed in 1998, the band—Dustin Kensrue (vocals/guitar), Teppei Teranishi (guitar), Eddie Breckenridge (bass), and Riley Breckenridge (drums)—first emerged from the hardcore and punk underground with a sound rooted in intensity, precision, and emotionally driven songwriting. Early releases established them as a formidable force in heavy music, but it quickly became clear that Thrice were less interested in belonging to a single scene than in challenging their own boundaries.
Across more than two decades of music, Thrice have built a remarkably diverse catalog that spans aggressive post-hardcore, expansive alternative rock, ambient and electronic experimentation, and stripped-down, introspective moments. Records like The Artist in the Ambulance capture their raw, high-energy roots, while Vheissu and The Alchemy Index showcase a band willing to explore post-rock dynamics, texture, and unconventional song structures. That same spirit continues through later work, including Palms and Horizons/West (2025), a companion to 2021’s Horizons/East that expands its themes while standing confidently on its own.
That evolution is on full display during their performance on Audiotree From Nothing, where Thrice seamlessly inhabit every era of their sound. Moving through “Vesper Light,” “Albatross, “Holding On,” and “Gnash,” the band balances brooding atmosphere, explosive heaviness, and reflective restraint with ease, underscored by Kensrue’s vocals shifting from hushed introspection to commanding intensity. More than a live session, the performance feels like a snapshot of a band whose integrity, musicianship, and connection with their audience have only deepened with time—reaffirming Thrice’s place as one of modern rock’s most enduring and versatile acts. We’re honored to present Thrice on Audiotree From Nothing.
