Homeland security is an American umbrella term referring to the national effort to prevent terrorist attacks within the United States, reduce the vulnerability of the U.S. to terrorism, and minimize the damage from attacks that do occur.
The Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) is a voluntary supply chain security program led by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and focused on improving the security of private companies' supply chains with respect to terrorism.
C-TPAT is a US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) voluntary joint government-business initiative to build cooperative relationships that strengthen overall supply chain and border security.
C-TPAT acknowledges that customs generally provide the highest level of security only through a close cooperation with the owners of the supply chain, importers, carriers, brokers, warehouse operators, and manufacturers. This initiative requires that business work to ensure the integrity of their supply chain processes and business partners, and successfully maintain open communication of their status. The program is not limited to large importer/exporters which recognizes that small and medium-sized companies are integral parts of maintaining secure borders.
The International Conference on Risk Mitigation and
C-TPAT is a training and awareness program that is
designed to enhance and work in conjunction with
HSPD-7 (Homeland Security Presidential Declaration
7).
M. Power & Associates is hosting this conference
in Dallas, TX with the intention of creating a
unique opportunity to promote cooperation
and increase communication and coordination
between the public and private sectors to guard
against disruptions to businesses caused by natural
disasters and/or terrorist events.
Lack of awareness, limited resources,
financial constraints, and constant changes to existing laws and regulations are the challenges that make it difficult for any business to meet basic
governmental requirements much less incorporate
strategies for continuous improvement.
We appreciate your interest in this matter and look forward to your participation in the
2013 Risk Mitigation and C-TPAT International Conference. Corporate responsibility
must be a key component of your business and operating strategies. This conference
will provide the public and private sectors with the following tools:
• How to identify immediate hazards and threats (natural or man-made) whether
domestic or international.
• How to develop and implement effective communication plans that focus on
relationship building activities between public and private sectors for the purpose
of preventing, preparing for, and recovering from disasters.
• Where to get access to the various types of resources and aid available to public
and private sectors on the local, state, and federal levels.
• How to develop a security profile that demonstrates due diligence and social
responsibility.
• For the companies that are interested, their security profiles can be submitted to
CBP (Customs and Border Protection) for the purpose of obtaining certification
for C-TPAT (Customs and Trade Partnership Against Terrorism).
Skills gained are transferable and will allow participants to plan and implement
comprehensive security programs that will protect our businesses, our economy, and ultimately our country.
