Happy Birthday to Dan K. Brown who was born on this date... some number of years ago. (I'm not sure of the year, there's not a lot of info on Dan out there)
"The Sign of Fire" by The Fixx off of their "Reach the Beach" album which came out in 1983 and featured Dan K. Brown on bass (on this song only). I'm a big fan of Dan's and, not to sound immodest, I see some similarities in our playing. What I mean by that is, when I sit down to learn one of his bass-lines, there's an intuitiveness about them that makes me think, "Yeah, that's something I might have come up with myself." I'm also a great fan of his minimalist approach to stage presence. Lynn and I have seen The Fixx a few times and hope to see them again. They are one of those bands that, besides sounding great, you know way more of their songs than you went into the show thinking you did. We're off to see The Who tonight. I've definitely seen them enough times for one lifetime, but the show is at Bethel Woods and they are playing with an orchestra. We saw Roger Daltrey perform Tommy with an orchestra a few years back and it was better than any Who show I've seen, since John Entwistle died that is.
I'm playing the Bruce Thomas Profile Signature Bass that came from The Bass Centre in the UK. My EQ is coming via a SansAmp Para-Driver.
Here is a link to another, unlisted version of the song -
