In 1984, reporter Hilda Bryant and photographer Richard Pauli
traveled to the Northwest Frontier Provinces of Pakistan - to Peshawar and then to Parachinar and then Teri Mangal...Then marching with the Mujahideen in the Jagjit province of Afghanistan.
Early in 1984, Sony Corp released a one-piece broadcast betacam camera, it was a new product that was still untested. They loaned Pauli this camera and donated the tape for coverage of a small aspect of that war during the Soviet occupation. Bryant and Pauli were probably the first compact broadcast camera and reporter to enter Afghanistan.
This brief documentary won an Emmy for investigative journalism in 1984 Seattle.
