1983 produced one of the biggest upsets in Challenge Cup history. Hull were in the Final to defend the trophy they had won the previous year and were League Champions that year, having also picked up the Yorkshire Cup to cap off a dominant year. They were heavy favourites to reclaim the cup against their opponents Featherstone Rovers, who since being promoted in 1980 had often narrowly avoided relegation from the Top Flight and 1983 was no difference. However Rovers had stunned both St Helens and Bradford Northern (as they were then) in the q-f and s-f to get to the Final, but no one really gave Rovers a prayer. Yet on a damp overcast day something special was to transpire, helped no doubt by the bizarre decision to allow both teams to play their home kits that must of added to the confusion. But Rovers relished the tag of underdog and in a compelling and absorbing match they achieved what few people expected - not least their fans - and caused one of the biggest sporting upsets in cup history.
Please note that this is not my video (my limited stock of Challenge Cup vids now used up) but that of Youtube member ShaunsRugbyLeagueVids. My reason for uploading this is that there are so few Challenge Cup Finals available online, as well as the fear that Youtube could just as easily delete an account and see these videos vanish - hence why I have uploaded this here. With no Youtube account anymore, the best I can do as recompense is link you to the video on there. You can find it here:

You may still have some confusion, but it might help you keep track on who has actually got the ball! Whether there can be a Wembley upset next week remains to be seen, but sit back and enjoy a time when Cup upsets were possible.
