The War Lover 1962
"The War Lover, 1962"
In Britain during World War II, Capt. Buzz Rickson is in command of a B-17 bomber. Col. Emmet, Rickson's commanding officer, cancels the bomber group's attack because of cloud cover when they are flying above Germany. Rickson completes the task by diving beneath the clouds, against his superior's orders. He thinks that since he is the group's finest pilot, Emmet will put up with his disobedience. The crew, particularly his co-pilot, Lt. Ed Bolland, trusts Rickson's instinctive flying abilities, despite the fact that the group's flight surgeon is unsure if Rickson is a hero or a psychopath.
The War Lover is a 1962 British war film that Howard Koch and Philip Leacock both wrote. It was based partially on John Hersey's 1959 novel, although it changed the identities of the people and events while keeping the main pot. Shirley Anne Field, Robert Wagner, and Steve McQueen are its main actors.
The film's most significant aspect is not the conflict itself. Rather, it centers on Captain Buzz Rickson's character and his will to serve himself and achieve his goals, even if it means upsetting everyone. Thanks 2 MrValentine.
