This is the story of Nor (New) Maragha, a Karabakh village founded in 1992 by surviving residents of old Maragha, which is now under Azerbaijani occupation. During the Karabakh War, the Azeris burned the old village and massacred scores of its Armenian residents.
Armenia Fund is actively contributing to the ongoing development of Nor Maragha, which is located in Karabakh’s Martakert Region. In 2015, the fund built a multifunctional community center in the village. The facility houses the mayor’s office, a combination health clinic and maternity ward, an events hall, a library, a computer room, a playroom, and a video-screening room. The construction of the community center was made possible by the financial support of the fund’s Toronto, Canada, affiliate, with additional support from the government of Nagorno Karabakh.
Armenia Fund has also provided the community center with an ambulance.
