Part 1 of 6 of the mystery from the TV series Bognor from 1981. When a undercover agent at a monastery is found dead in the grounds, MI5 are forced to call upon Simon Bognor to go in and investigate. It seems Collingdale (the dead man) had been trying to discover who among the seemingly respectable order of brothers who could be leaking agricultural formulas to the Russians. Bognor is sceptical at first, as he heads down to investigate, with his girlfriend Monica also following him and staying at a local pub. But it seems someone doesn't want him to probe too deeply as later someone makes an attempt to kill him!
Starring David Horovitch, Joanna McCallum, Ewan Roberts, Geoffrey Chater, James Maxwell, Patrick Troughton, Robert Eddison, Anthony Jackson, John H Francis, Edward Peel, Cornelius Barrett, Stephen Boxer, Tim Meats, Roger Heathcott, David Rowlands, Charles Lloyd Pack and Alec Wallis. This is from a rarely repeated TV mystery series that was originally broadcast on February 10th 1981. I came across it originally on TalkingPictures TV a few years ago and despite the fact that it only ever ran to 4 mysteries over one series, it proves very enjoyable and also very funny at times. David Horovitch will be better remembered as Inspector Slack in Miss Marple, but he is far more relaxed in this as Simon Bognor, while Joanna McCallum - daughter of John McCallum and Googie Withers - is a good foil for him. It's also an intriguing mystery that in it's half hour episodes makes it move very briskly indeed. I hope you enjoy it. Part 2 to follow.
