A 15-year-old girl is enticed into the drug culture of early 1970s America.
Jamie Smith-Jackson portrays "Alice", a shy, slightly overweight high schooler who is so anxious for acceptance that she falls in with the drug crowd.
In a methodical, almost casual way, we see how Alice descends into a netherworld of heavy drug use, casual sex, runaways, and prostitution.
"Alice" was allegedly the pseudonym of the teenaged author who wrote the real-life diary that the subsequent book and this above-average TV movie were based (This was later proven to be a work of fiction - the 'diary' was actually written by a middle-aged woman). Still, all-in-all, "Go Ask Alice" was pretty gritty stuff for 1973 prime-time TV. Showing open drug use from a teen's point of view. With the parents being clueless for the most part.
William Shatner plays Alice's father, Andy Griffith is a jaded priest/caretaker of a church/homeless shelter.
Watch for a very young Mackenzie Phillips as a teen runaway.
