Jane Tennison heads a investigation into the disappearance of a teenage girl, only for her to be found tied up and murdered. It looks disturbingly familiar to Tennison to that of the crimes of another case she investigated 4 years previously, but the culprit is now safely behind bars. Tennison suspects a copycat killer, due to the fact that a book has been recently released on the killer, but when another body is found in exactly the same way her bosses and colleagues begin to suspect that there may of been a miscarriage of justice. When Tennison refuses to consider the possibility, she is suspended - could she of been wrong all along, or is there another killer out there?
Starring Helen Mirren, Stephen Boxer, Hugh Simon, Christopher Fulford, Stuart Wilson, Tim Woodward, Pip Donaghy, Penelope Beaumont, Alan Leith, Christopher Ashley, Glen Berry, Joseph Kpobie, Otis Munyang'iri, Scott Neal, Sam Halpenny, Richard Hawley, David Ryall, John Benfield, Caroline Strong, Geoffrey Church, Marc Warren, Antony Byrne, Andreas Markos, Darrell De'Silva, Tanya Ronder, Ray Fearon, Sadie Shimmin, Karen Salt, Kate Ashfield, Joyce Redman, Dermot Keaney, Ruth Carraway and Elaine Lordon. This is from my own collection and concluded the 4th series of Prime Suspect feature length mysteries, which goes back to Tennison's original breakthrough murder case with the reappearance of the character George Marlow. However, a slight downfall in this case is the fact that original actor John Bowe did not return for the role, and Tim Woodward for me is no real substitute for Bowe. Another recasting comes in the shape of Joyce Redman as Marlow's mother, but this came about due to the death of the original actress Maxine Audley from a heart attack in 1992, just a year after appearing in Prime Suspect. Keep your eyes peeled also for early appearances by Marc Warren and Kate Ashfield before they were famous. Please note that this contains swearing and violence.
