Episode 21: Jon Forsyte has returned to England after life as a farmer in North Carolina. Anne Wilmott falls in love with him, but when her brother Francis queries why he is not more open in his love he learns from his mother Irene that he was once hurt by a woman. His return is a shock to Fleur, still happily married to Michael Mort, now an MP. But when socialite Marjorie Ferrar is overheard insulting her at her party by Soames, he throws her out, leading to libel action taken by both sides. It threatens to get wildly out of hand, especially as Marjorie is dating MP Sir Alexander MacGown, who is in no mood to back down. However, little does he know she is also entertaining Francis Wilmot, a result that threatens to lead to tragedy...
Starring Eric Porter, Susan Hampshire, Nicholas Pennell, Martin Jarvis, Nyree Dawn Porter, Caroline Blakiston, Margaret Tyzack, Hal Hamilton, John Phillips, Cyril Luckham, Teniel Evans, Donald Gee, Karin Fernald, Maggie Jones and Julia White. This is from old video tapes, so apologies in advance for any picture quality or glitches. Part of the description for this episode describes Episode 20, which I had but played up so badly I had to save that episode from another source. This does however feature the wonderful Caroline Blakiston, here in a very early but prominent role, who viewers will probably best remember her for The Mallens, Brass, At Bertrams Hotel, and the more recent Poldark as Aunt Agatha. Remarkably she's still going strong at the age of 90!
