Part 1 of 5 of the P.D. James mystery from 1984. Chief Superintendent Adam Dalgliesh is sent to interview arms dealer Martin Dettinger in a fraud case where a witness has been killed. Dettinger has been transferred to Nightingale Hospital, a place that also trains student nurses, whilst awaiting an urgent operation. While there he recognizes one of the staff from his past, but he can't recall where. But as it turns out, it is not Dettinger who is the first to die...
Starring Roy Marsden, Joss Ackland, Sheila Allen, Thelma Whiteley, Andree Evans, Liz Fraser, John Vine, Richard Marner, Eleanor David, Rosalyn Elvin, Deborah Findley, Natalie Ogle, Judi Maynard, Lynne Pearson, Sarah Thomas, Marcia Tucker, Robin Kermode, Annette Robertson and Lennard Pearce. This is from my own collection and was originally broadcast on March 9th 1984. Unusually for a P.D. James adaptation it is only in 5 parts, but is a hugely compelling mystery that is one of my favourites. It also has a host of sitcom stars, such as Richard Marner (Allo Allo), Sarah Thomas (Last of the Summer Wine) and Lennard Pearce (Only Fools & Horses) in what would be his last screen role before he died.
