The.Desperate.People (1963) (Part 4)
Part 4 of 6 of the Francis Durbridge mystery. Larry is stunned to see the couple in the photo at the nightclub, but the story they have to tell is even more perplexing. He also bumps into Luther Harris and shows him a card dropped by Fletcher, the man who broke into his studio, that has his name on it, alongside that of his brother and Andy Wilson. But Luther denies knowing anything about it, and later contacts him to give him a key handed to him by Andy to pick up a suitcase at the Lost Luggage Property at the railway station. But Larry is stunned when he discovers what it contains, little realizing that he is in grave danger while it remains in his possession...
Starring Dennis Quilley, Renny Lister, Stanley Meadows, Hugh Cross, Nigel Hawthorne, Hilary Crane, John Flint, Frances Collier, Pam Reece, Edward Brooks and Clifford Earl. This is one of the earliest Francis Durbridge TV mysteries in existance (hense the picture quality at times), but it is still a remarkably fast paced and absorbing mystery, helped by a good lead perfromance by Dennis Quilley and a surprisingly villainous turn by Nigel Hawthorne as the mysterious heavy Fletcher. Like all Durbridge mysteries it is complex and two thirds of the way in it remains a baffling and gripping whodunnit, made all the more hypnotic by that superb eerie theme tune.
