Part 2 of 6 of the Scottish period drama. After the devastating events of the previous episode, the family try to come to terms with it all, but the deaths have left them shunned by the village due to the scandal. With John Guthrie now a widower, most of the children are sent away to relatives to be brought up, leaving just Chris and her brother Will with their father to work on the farm. Chris has her first sexual awakenings as a passing tinker pays an interest in her, while her brother and father clash regularly, especially when there is further scandal in the village involving Will and a village girl. Then Will makes a decision that has far reaching consequences for Chris...
