Russell Glyn Ballard (born October 31, 1945) is an English singer/songwriter. He was born in Waltham Cross, Hertforshire in England. His music career began in the 1960s as part of such groups as Buster Miekle and the Day Breakers, The Roulettes and Unit 4+2, Ballard became lead singer of the group Argent, and was part of their only Top 10 single, "Hold Your Head Up". Ballard left Argent in 1973 and turned to songwriting, penning the hits "Liar" for Three Dog Night, "I Know There's Something Going On" (produced by Phil Collins, who also provided drums) and "Can't Shake Loose" for former ABBA singers Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Agnetha Faltskog, respectively.
In 1975 Ballard released his self-titled debut solo album, followed by Winning in 1976 (the title cut was later covered by Santana), later albums include At The Third Stroke, Into The Fire, Russ Ballard-1984 (featuring "Voices", and "In The Night"), and The Fire Still Burns (featuring "Your Time Is Gonna Come"). Ballard also worked with the group America in 1982, producing their album The Border, featuring their singles "You Can Do Magic" and "The Border", and resurrected their career. Ballard has only released two other solo albums in the past 20 years, and looks for new talent constantly.
His album "Russ Ballard" recorded in 1984 (actually his second self-titled album, his first was in 1975) contained two songs used in Miami Vice, "Voices" heard in "Calderone's Return (Part II)" and "In The Night", heard in "Calderone's Return (Part I)".

Lyrics:
If you could see my mind, if you really look deep then maybe you'll find
That somewhere there will be a place, hidden behind my comedian face
You will find somewhere there's a house and inside that house there's a room
Locked in the room in the corner you see
A voice is waiting for me to set it free
I got the key, I got the key
Voices, I hear voices
In my head the voice is waiting, waiting for me, to set it free
I locked it inside my imagination, but I'm the one who's got the combination
Some people didn't like what the voice did say
So I took the voice and I locked it away
I got the key, I got the key
Voices, I hear voices
Voices, I hear voices
Don't look back, look straight ahead, don't turn away, then the voice it said
Don't look back, yesterday's gone, don't turn away, you can take it on
Voices, I hear voices
Voices, I hear voices
Don't look back, look straight ahead, don't turn away, then the voice it said
Don't look back, yesterday's gone, don't turn away, you can take it on
X3
Voices, voices, voices, voices... - don't look back
Voices, voices...
Don't look back, look straight ahead, don't turn away, then the voice it said
Don't look back, yesterday's gone, don't turn away, you can take it on
