The lift scene in the film The Apartment (1960), where Jack Lemmon's cold ridden office employee ends up chatting to Shirley MacLaine's chripy elevator girl. It's a lovely scene, and she also knows how to handle herself when fellow employee Al Kirkeby (David Lewis) slaps her bum when they get out. "You know, one of these days I'm gonna shut these doors on you and..." before waving a sleeve at him with no hand in it. Not that it diminishes Kirkeby's opinion of her. "Boy! Wouldn't I like to get her on the slow elevator to China?" he whistles."She's the best operator in the building," replies Lemmon, and it's hard to disagree with that!
