A TV adaptation of the Barbara Cartland novel, first shown on TV on 27th December 1987. Sir Giles Staverley kills himself after losing his daughter Serena, her trust fund and the family home to his villanous rival, Lord Harry Wrotham. Determined to avenge a wrong, Lord Justin Vulcan challenges Wrotham in a game for her and wins her, much to Wrotham's disgust. But Serena herself is distrustful of her new 'owner', having lost everything she has known to the young stranger, but Vulcan decides to install her in the family home of Mandrake and the two begin to trust each other. But Serena faces threats from an number of factions - not just from Wrotham, but from Vulcan's own mother Harriet, who takes against her - and begins to realize something is very much amiss in the Mandrake household...
Starring Helenea Bonham Carter, Marcus Gilbert, Edward Fox, Diana Rigg, Christopher Plummer, Stewart Granger, Fiona Fullerton, Neil Dickson, Anna Massey, Eileen Atkins, Gareth Hunt and Christopher Villiers to name but a few. This is from an old video tape my mum used to have of it, as she was a big Barbara Cartland fan in the day, and it is an entertaining watch with some wonderful performances, especially from Diana Rigg and Edward Fox, who has a ball here, and is more than a match for Rigg in the performance stakes. As this is from an old video tape, apologies in advance for any glitches this may contain.
