Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu gave an interview during the closing ceremony of the Army Games in Alabino range near Moscow, on Saturday evening, in which he discussed the current situation in Syria.
SOT, Sergei Shoigu, Russian Defence Minister (Russian): "And tomorrow who will be fighting? We are doing this, so that, and God please do not bring us there, to have a trained equipped armed army, of course."
SOT, Sergei Shoigu, Russian Defence Minister (Russian): "Over the past two months, more territory has been liberated than it was under the control of the Syrian government at the time of its entry there. That is, in fact, we made it 2.5 times more than it was before. By 'we' I mean the Syrian army with our support."
SOT, Sergei Shoigu, Russian Defence Minister (Russian): "Today there are key points, including Deir-ez-Zor. I would say, first of all, Deir-ez-Zor. There has been military actions for more than one year. People bravely fight there. Regularly, two or three, or it happens, four times a week, food, medicine, ammunition are being delivered there. This is perhaps the main point at the Euphrates, which will in many ways indicate the end of the fight against ISIS."
SOT, Sergei Shoigu, Russian Defence Minister (in Russian): "Today we say: 'You deliver [aid] to the de-escalation zones, everything is open. If you cannot deliver, we will bring it ourselves.' But we can not be both mum and dad. Therefore, of course, here we need the support of humanitarian organisations, the United Nations. Then the restoration will go on, the return of refugees to their homes should go on, first inside Syria, which is happening now, and then - from other regions."
